Date varieties belong to the category of palm trees and tropical plants. Their edible fruit has hardcore and thin skin that hangs in a large cluster of branches. The delicious and sweet taste date varieties fruits have beneficial properties for health.

Dates varieties require plenty of sunshine, low relative humidity and warm nights for their best growth. They are cultivated in tropical and sub-tropical areas. Some countries in North Africa and the Middle East are the greatest producers of dates worldwide. The maximum harvest of date palms is from mid-fall to mid-winter, in the northern hemisphere the time is from October to January.

What are the date producing countries?

The top producer is Egypt, with about 20% of world production. Iran, with the rate of about 14% is in second place and the other countries as Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Pakistan and the other are next.
The world produces about 7 million tons of dates annually and Iran’s production is about one million tons. In terms of date varieties export, in the year 2017, Tunisia was the largest exporter country of dates by value about 227 million USD and Iran ranks second by 209 million USD.
In terms of export the dates by volume, Iraq is the largest exporter, with about 321,000 tons. The UAE is in second place of exporting with about 276,000 tons, and Iran is ranked in third place with about 209,000 tons.

What are the date Varieties?

All the dates have many great health benefits; they are easy for consumption and also very tasty. Dates are among the most nutritious foods. They are rich in a variety of minerals, antioxidants, vitamins, and fiber. Of course, the varieties of dates are in different tastes, textures, colors and sizes.
The dates are also in different flavored, as soft, tender and most fragile, semi-dry dates with sweet delicate flavored and nutty and dry sweet-flavored dates. There are about 3000 of date varieties around the world and about 400 types of them grow in Iran.  In Iran, many varieties of dates are cultivated in the southern areas. – Piarom Date, it’s in dried dates category and most expensive dates In Iran. Most of the sugar in it is fructose, which is very suitable as the sugar allowed by people who suffer from diabetes.
– Sayer Date, it is placed in the dry dates category, which is good for export. It is very sweet and has a sugar content of 75%. It is cultivated in Khuzestan province.
– Mozafati Date, it is a wet date that is popular among consumers. It is cultivated in Bam city and its surrounding villages. Most of these dates are used for export.
– Royal Date, it is one of the more wet dates which are popular. It has soft and delicate texture. This type of date is used to make a variety of date extract.
